The Wizard World Comic-Con
For those of you who didn’t know- The Wizard World Comic Con was on Friday, May 13, up to Sunday, May 15. And as expected, it was flooded with people ready to meet new people, take photos, and spend more money than they expected- like I did.
This year’s Comic-Con had been rushed to an earlier date than last years, and that shows some aspects- there weren’t any big name Hollywood actors present this year, like last years. And there were a few fewer booths set up. Needless to say that these are only small criticisms and do not completely sway my opinion on an entire day.
The price for parking was a little steep, but for a convention that only comes around once a year it is expected to pay a little more for things than you would normally do on normal occasions. Is a way the Wizard World Comic Con is pretty much the Iowa State Fair for nerd and geek culture.
Big names still showed up to meet fans and to sign autographs. Such as Tony Moore and Arthur Suydam artists for famous comic books such as The Walking Dead, Captain America, Deadpool, Army of Darkness, and Marvel Zombies.
There was plenty to do, from browsing comic books, shopping for specialty items, and participating in a gaming tournament.
Each vendor was polite and courteous to everyone who went up and browsed their merchandise. Prices were normally fair, especially for getting an autograph from an artist or getting artwork, but with that, there was also the items that were rare and outweighed many people’s wallets and funds that day.
This can not come to any surprise when it comes to Comic-Con, where you never know if you are going to see that item again anywhere else.
For all it is worth, this year did not disappoint and had brought people from all over the state for the entire weekend. It should have to go without saying, that anyone who has the money and enjoys any form of nerd culture should make a trip up to the Des Moines Event Center next year and catch the convention.
