If you’ve ever attended an ADM High School football game, you know there is many celebratory “booms.” If you haven’t attened one, the ADM booms are fireworks that are set off to celebrate a touchdown, but you will also hear them go off during the singing of the national athem. This marks the begining of the game before kickoff.
This tradition is unique to ADM and has been around for several years. The tradition started in 1978, when ADM was still playing at Kinnick-Feller Park. The tradition was started under the supervision of Bob Button and a former ADM Athletic Director Bill Kimber. The idea to set off firewroks after a touchdown was sparked when the fireworks would go off during the National Anthem. The idea soon came to life, and is now used at every ADM home football game.
Whenever the boom goes off, the crowd gets so much more excited. It’s something that people can look forward to after touchdowns, and they make the game that much more exciting. If you haven’t already attended an ADM Varsity football game, I would recommend coming out to support, and hearing the big boom. After every boom we will remeber Bill Kimber, and the tradition he left us with today.
