ADM Jazz Amp Takes on Championship
ADM is well known for it’s singing voices. And this year Amp, a group of mixed voices who perform rich deep contemporary jazz chords, has made it to vocal jazz championships for the third consecutive year.
Jazz is considered hard to perform because of different styles of performing like fast swing, low swing, shuffle, ballets, basso, or more. Amp is a mixed ensemble consisting of mostly juniors and seniors, but there’s also one sophomore, too. They have performed at the Pops Concert and at the State Festival in February.
The championship will be held on March 29 at 3:40 at West Des Moines Valley, and the results will be announced the same night. For now AMP is in the top eight best choirs in the state and it’s their third consecutive year of scoring in the top nine state choirs.
“I’m so excited,” said Director Greg Woodin. “I felt really competitive so I’m really glad to be there.”
The actual songs they will definitely be performing are Takes her Time (jazz rock) featuring Jonathan Norris as a tenor solo, Tenderly (wallet), featuring Logan Dossan and Marissa Meadowcroft and the last one is called Four Brothers (shuffle tune), featuring Madalyn Walker, Logan Davis and Jonathan Norris.
The Awards ceremony will be held at 8 pm after all choirs perform and judges make their decisions.
“Waiting to find out, I think is the most stressful part of it,” said Woodin. “But then once you’re in or out it takes all the pressure off. At this point we just need to continue practicing and getting better and perform well on game day.”
