Teacher Feature: Ms. Boes
McKinzie Boes has served as a student teacher at ADM for the past three months. Despite being a familiar face, many students don’t know who she is.
Boes grew up in Fontanelle, Iowa and attended Southwestern Community College before attending the University of Northern Iowa.
“Sophomore year I realized that I really liked history and I also found that I was good with kids,” said Boes. “So, I decided what was better than putting the two together?”
Boes has been able to work with two of ADM’s finest teachers, Del Buchman and Charity Miller. She says she has taken away many ideas from both of them and has found that she would rather work with middle schoolers.
“I like teaching high school but middle school-aged kids have this energy that you really have to work hard for in high school,” said Boes.
While being at ADM, she emphasized how welcoming everyone was right off the bat. She said it was much easier to get comfortable in a school where everyone was open and accepting.
“I’ve learned that students are more willing and open if you try to make connections with them.”
