My Top Five 2022 Met Gala Looks
Since 1948 the Met Gala has become one of New York’s biggest nights of fashion, and this year we were served even more iconic looks. The 2022 dress code was “Gilded Glamour, White Tie” and was centered around the Gilded Age of America, from the 1870s to the early 1900s, “Gilding” refers to something thinly covered in gold but not necessarily as valuable as something solid gold. This year’s theme was a continuation of the most recent Met Gala held in September of 2021 which was themed, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. I’m going to be ranking my top five looks from last week’s event and sharing my thoughts on some of these celebrity’s pieces.
Coming in at spot number five are Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, am I biased? Yes, but regardless this couple pulled it off and looked flawless last night. Both stars were sporting Louis Vuitton looks, Turner in a black maxi dress with diamond-shaped embellishments paired with a matte cherry red lip. Jonas wore a white coat, black trousers, and silver jewelry, his coat had a floral lace tail that matched perfectly with the night’s theme, and the two expectant parents were glowing.
Number four we have miss Hailey Bieber looking radiant as ever. Bieber flew solo at Monday’s event as her husband is busy on his world tour, The Justice Tour. Hailey arrived in an elegant white Saint Laurent gown covered with a feathered white floor-length shawl. Bieber paired this with black tights and dainty black heels.
My number three spot goes to Sabrina Carpenter. This look hasn’t been talked about enough. The way my jaw dropped when I saw her. Carpenter walked the red carpet in a sparkly Paco Rabanne two-piece, the skirt had a long train and it was all sequin embellished. She was glowing in this design. This was Carpenter’s first time attending the Met Gala and she knocked it out of the park. And if she had not served enough she looked just as stunning in her after-party look. Keeping the same Paco Rabanne top but trading the floor-length skirt for a sequin mini skirt. Paired with a denim jacket to give a casual vibe to her look.
Coming in number two is my king Shawn Mendes. I kid you not he looked so good. Shawn never misses, from hit songs to walking the Met Gala carpet in a completely upcycled look designed by Tommy Hilfiger. His sleek navy blue suit captured the theme perfectly and to top it off his nails were painted with the Tommy design as an accent.
And finally, number one goes to the one and only Blake Lively. Senior Lauren Brady commented on this iconic look saying, “Oh. my. gosh. She is a goddess, I loved the dress and how it changed colors. How she always matches the red carpet. This event is no longer about the other celebrities, it’s the Blake Lively event and everyone else is just there. God, I love her so much i wish she was my mom. She is so lovely.” Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds were co-hosts at the 2022 Met, alongside Regina King and Lin Manuel-Miranda. She arrived on the carpet in a New York inspired gown designed by Atelier Versace. As if the first look wasn’t stunning enough there was a dramatic dress reveal after her arrival. Changing the gown from a rust rose gold to a vibrant teal green attributing to the story of the famous Statue of Liberty.
