The Slaughterhouse Review
The Slaughterhouse, a haunted house located in Downtown Des Moines inspired by the band Slipknot can be described in three words: evil, demonic, piggies. While those three words can be off-putting, the experience itself is phenomenal. If you’re worried about shelling out 20 or 30 bucks or waiting in an hour plus line, don’t be. This haunted house will be sure to put the spooky in your spooky season.
For the brave of heart, this house will blow any expectation you will have. With experiences such as walking through a 360-degree fluorescent spinning tunnel and actors jumping out behind dark walls, you lead yourself through the adventures of a twisted butchery. “It was pretty neat,” said Kadyn Dimler. “It was scary, but not as scary as I thought it would be.”
Flashing lights are a huge part of the slaughterhouse. If you have epilepsy or are not fond of strobe lights, these attractions are not for you. For myself, the power of the strobe lights made the experience truly incredible. At one point I thought I was dreaming, as the actors moved in slow motion as you only saw them as the lights flashed.
I have only three tips for this experience. My first would be to go with a group of close, trusted friends. While you are walking through the dark path, you will for sure be grabbing onto the closest arm you can find. My second is to make sure you are not the leader of the group unless you want to be truly terrified. Stay in the middle or the back of the pack, so you have an idea of what’s coming. My final tip is to keep a positive mindset. Humor is great at hiding how scared you are!
10/10 would go back again. 5 stars on Yelp!
