Lights turned down, desks pushed aside, ADM students meet before school to start their day with yoga.

ADM students have a new activity to check out. Yoga Club was started by junior Sami Schepers. “I have been doing yoga with my stepmom for a couple of weeks now and we’ve just been doing it in the living room and we’ve had a lot of fun. I heard there are kids at Dowling who have yoga as a class in their day and although we can’t have it as a specific class I thought it’d be fun to just start a club that whoever wanted to come could do it,” said Schepers.

Yoga Club meets every other Wednesday (the first meeting was February 7th).

“The first week I was pretty nervous that no one would show up and it was a snowstorm and someone actually crashed on the way here so the first week was a little rough, but the second week a lot more people showed up,” Schepers said. “Although it’s just 40, 30 minutes out of your day you’d be surprised how much calmer you feel the rest of the day. I’m glad we do it in the morning because school can get kinda stressful and even though it’s early it just takes a little bit of time out of your day and just makes you relaxed and calm and ready to take on anything.”

The club was lucky enough to find a space to start out in. “Sami asked if she could use the room because it is a large room and I said she could and I just come in the morning, make sure the door’s open, and I leave them to do their thing,” said history teacher Charity Miller.

With 22 people attending the most recent meeting, they may need to relocate to fit the growing numbers. “I would for sure recommend it to others, it’s very relaxing and its a good way to start the morning,” said Emma Kaney after one meeting.

Everyone is welcome to try out Yoga Club. The next meeting will be March 8 from 7:00-7:45 in Mrs. Miller’s room.
