It’s no secret that the election of Donald Trump has caused a great deal of distress and rebellion among U.S. citizens. However, not all negative reactions are rooted in anger. Many social groups are facing increased discrimination and harassment since the election and are feeling more unsafe in their own country than they have in years.
Pinning a safety pin to one’s shirt or jacket is one way to show those in need of support that you are a “safe” ally. While the safety pin movement may not be dramatically changing the comfort minority groups feel in America, it is a way to show them that there is always a group of people who support them.
